Joomla! User Group Toronto had it's first event of 2009. A Pub Night at Scruffy Murphy's Irish Pub in Etobicoke right near the 427 and Dundas St. This was a great event, I drove in from Guelph and it was well worth it. It's taken almost year to get a second JUGT meeting going. The first one was downtown Toronto last February.
The people that came out were typical Joomla! community people, friendly and lively. The conversations were fast and furious covering all kinds of Joomla! topics including tips and recommendations. It was a great event and a chance to network and make new friends.
It's been hard to get things going for a Joomla! User Group Toronto (JUGT) simply because of the size of the city. After weeks of chatter online about where to meet and what to do, we all decided to make it a casual night at Alan Langford's suggested favourite local pub 'Scruffy Murphy's'. It was a great choice. It has a nice atmosphere and our server was very friendly.
I'm certain things will start to gel as the Toronto Joomla! people get familiar and comfortable with one another. More formalized meetings with computers and demonstrations will be organized. For now the pub night is a big hit and certainly proved to be the way to go. There's a poll online over at http://toronto.joomla.ca to decide where the next JUGT pub night is going to be. If you are from or near Toronto and want to get involved just join the 'Joomla User Group Toronto/GTA' Google Group'. There's a link to it on the JUGT home page mentioned above.
