Although not specifically a Joomla! item, I thought today I would bring attention to Mac OSX Hints. I use a Macintosh computer and so do many Joomla! developers. You can do so many things on a Macintosh, including running different operating systems, making the Macintosh computer one of the most versatile hardware platforms around. Getting the most out of the Mac is easy. The Macintosh community, just like the Joomla! community, is huge. Mac users have been helping other Mac users from the start of Apple in 1977. If you are not already aware of Mac OSX Hints you should get to know this site. I have it set up in my RSS reader so I can quickly scan all the latest and greatest Mac tips and hints submitted on the site. One really great tip submitted recently is a long list of modifier key tricks on their wiki.
You can get to the MacOSXHints wiki HERE. Here are just a few of the tips you will find there: COMMAND+OPTION: - Force open a file by dragging on to app icons
- Create aliases by dragging one file from one place to another
- Customize toolbar by clicking the tube button on the top right of the window
- Close all windows in a certain app
- Drag item out of dock to make alias in finder
- Not that this matters, but, while option clicking a folder in Finder will open it in a new window, this key combo will open the folder in a new window and close the other window. Kinda pointless right?! This also works with sidebar items
- Click on a different application to hide all but the one you clicked on. This only works when the application you want for it to work on is not in focus. The keyboard equivalent of this is OPTION+COMMAND+H
Shutdown, Restart, Log Out, and Sleep: - ^+OPTION+COMMAND+EJECT - hold for 1 - 2 seconds to shutdown
- ^+COMMAND+EJECT - hold for 1 - 2 seconds to restart
- OPTION+COMMAND+EJECT - hold for 1 - 2 seconds to sleep (this is very helpful with desktop computer)
- OPTION+COMMAND+SHIFT+Q - Logout without reminder saying are you sure
- ^+EJECT - display the restart/sleep/shutdown/cancel window
